Mold as a trigger for illness

A toxic mold exposure triggered our gut issues, Hashimoto’s thyroiditis, Lyme disease, viral activations, hormone imbalances, parasites, heavy metal toxicity….the list goes on. How could that be? Well, mold is notorious for being a HUGE activator for illness, as it’s capable of turning certain genes “on” that were previously “off” and activating infections that were previously dormant. It creates a perfect storm for infections and related autoimmune conditions to thrive.

In fact, it’s been shown that there was a 400% increase in the prevalence of autoimmune disease in occupants of water damaged buildings. Mind blowing, right?! Mold and the mycotoxins they release wreak havoc on the immune system by creating a ton of oxidative stress, mitochondrial dysfunction and more often than not, a chronic inflammatory response that can trigger up to 40 symptoms across the body’s organ systems. It is a multi-organ system, multi-symptom illness. This is also why so many individuals are often misdiagnosed initially…most practitioners aren’t accustomed to seeing so many different seemingly unrelated symptoms across different systems of the body.

As confusing and scary as these symptoms can be in the moment, they are your bodies way of setting off an alarm to you. Our bodies are incredibly intelligent and they know when something is off…symptoms are signals and we are best served by tuning in and listening to them!

Some of our first symptoms or “signals”  were debilitating chronic fatigue, brain fog, insomnia, headaches and gut issues- all of which felt seemingly out of nowhere!
